The 22nd Fortnightly Playlist

Listen here

The playlist opens with a protest song this week. Kyle Craft’s before the wall expresses so many fears and desires in our country right now.

Track 2 marks the first time I’m including a song that isn’t recently released. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings’ “Retreat!” was re-released as part of the soundtrack to the film “Miss Sharon Jones” this summer.

There is a heavy bent this week toward world musicians. There are a number of South American artists included here such as Ceci Bastida, La Yegros, and Drumagick. Also included is a small series of short tracks from the film “They Will Have To Kill Us First: Malian Music in Exile.”I have not seen the film yet, but the inclusion of artists like Khaira Arby, Ali Farka Toure and Nick Zinner has me very interested. The music is excellent.

Personal favorites on this list at the moment include the tracks by Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions, Ceci Bastida, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Ana Tijoux.
Until next time.
